At this point sure many of you know Runes of Magic. It is an epic MMO (or MMORPG, as they like) that eventually will become in our language by next September. The title is completely free, it has garnered tremendous success in other countries like England or Germany, where it has almost one and half million registered users.

Runewaker is a well known name in the computer games world developed some popular games and Runes of Magic is one of them. Its creators, Runewaker, include several significant developments during the game’s release in Castilian. The most significant is the incursion of elves as characters to choose from, but also added new characters, areas, etc.

As mentioned previously, Runes of Magic is a free game, simply download the software needed to get to play it. And we, of course, we have tested the new beta available. It is clearly noted that Runewaker effort being made to adapt the game to our language. An effort that, sure, players in our country fans this type of security will greatly appreciate.

The game play is similar to other programs as well known as World of Warcraft. In Runes of Magic have to create a character with an editor that lets you choose between the options of the day, then moved with him a great fantasy world. There are various missions (1600) and defeating enemies to level up (enemies, I must say, pretty stupid). Come on, roughly the same as always. For any fan of role do you gonna get new ones.

Runes of Magic is, how could it be otherwise, and involving a profound experience, pure addiction. The numerous options presented are supplemented by a careful system of classes that offers great freedom of customization (there are six in total). Like the houses that we have in the game and used to store items that do not use (something that becomes indispensable). Once our character reaches a certain level, in addition, the game makes us choose between a new class (race, to understand), so that the combinations and possibilities increase twice.

The duration of the game is almost eternal. In total, can improve their characters to level 50, something that can not achieve what is said in an afternoon … That yes, it is possible to spend some money to increase our team and stuff. Purely optional because at no time becomes very transcendent in the course of the adventure (least as far as our experience has come so far). In any case, improvement of payment is carried out thanks to diamonds. For about five dollars will get hundred of them, to give you an idea of which way the shots.

As mentioned, Runes of Magic is a title rather cool and fun to play. Runewaker The kids have been ready and included in the maps teleportation points that avoid having to go forever and leaden passages. The control, using mouse and keyboard is intuitive and easy to master, so get with the game is only a matter of minutes.

There is still a month to be able to play the final version of this new title, but it is clear that without doubt will become a proposal to be considered by Spanish users fans of this type of experience online. True Runes of Magic sins of the typical limitations of free games, but its numerous development options and end up hooking entertaining themselves or each other (which is what it is).

The same tool that shaves dollars off your overnight bill, minimizes your long distance charges and gives your fax a rest-e-mail- has a dual personality. While e-mail is an irresistible, inexpensive and ingenious way to save time, it can transform into a vicious time-stealer. So grab your favorite computer, arm your mouse and follow these six steps to combat e-mail enemies.

Just say no…to e-mail distribution lists that is. When you receive an e-mail from someone, ask the sender to remove your name immediately. That applies to friends who have added your address to their “bad joke distribution list” and unwanted SPAM.

When you receive an e-mail message, take action. If you have only a few minutes to check your messages, scan each one and save as new, the ones you need to read closely. Delete the rest of the messages if you don’t need to review the information further.

Be selective about what you save and avoid saving and printing every e-mail message you receive. The purpose of e-mail is to communicate quickly and efficiently by avoiding the use of paper. If you know that you’ll never refer to an e-mail message again, get rid of it.

Use one e-mail address for business, and one for personal. Give your business address to your clients only and your personal address to friends and family. You’ll unclog your business mail by keeping both categories separate. If you search the Web often, use a free e-mail address that you never check (it will only be filled with SPAMs anyway).

Purge saved e-mail messages regularly. Get in the habit of reviewing your saved messages every month (if you label them clearly, they’ll be easier to identify) and delete the ones you no longer need.

Be concise. If you can use fewer words with the same meaning, do so. Enough said.

1. The wrong software. Before you invest in a computer program, ask others about the program’s ease of use and benefits, and whether timely technical support is available. Don’t overbuy: A program may offer more features than you need, costing you time and money, when a simplified version of the same program would suffice.

2. Interruptions. Close your office door if family members are home, don’t answer your front door and let your voice mail take messages while you work on important tasks.

3. Postponed decisions. Rather than waste time contemplating various choices to the point that you continually miss deadlines, make a decision and develop a backup plan in case your first choice fails.

4. Long-winded callers. When you call someone who’s notorious for keeping you on the phone too long, state upfront that you have only a few minutes to talk. Ask the caller for the information you need or respond to their request, then finish the call.

5. Searching for lost items. In a survey I conducted with the American Business Women’s Association, 43 percent of the respondents said they waste up to 15 minutes looking for lost items; 32 percent waste up to 30 minutes. Take time to set up files, organize reference materials and store extra supplies. That way, when information or products reach your office, you’ll know where they belong.

On the occasion of the First e-ASEAN Task Force Meeting

March 2, 2000, Shangri-La Hotel

Excellencies, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, as Chair of the e-ASEAN Task Force I’d like to welcome you this morning as we begin our formidable task towards the development of an ASEAN e-space or e-ASEAN.

As many of you know, during the ASEAN Informal Summit in November last year, our leaders indicated to the world the importance with which they held the developments in information technology by holding the first-ever dialogue with private sector it leaders from around the region. The ASEAN leaders were very clear in their interest to move the region as a whole into the information age, to reduce the digital divide and to help all ASEAN citizens benefit from the opportunities of the Internet world.

From that Informal Summit was born the e-ASEAN task force, which is a high-level advisory body whose mandate is to develop a broad and comprehensive action plan with the objective of evolving an ASEAN e-space, and to develop competencies within ASEAN to compete in the global information economy. This is the first time that an advisory body exists where each ASEAN leader has appointed a private sector and a public sector official to sit together to discuss and recommend policies and program of action that will develop the necessary physical, legal, logistical, social and economic infrastructure needed to successfully compete in the new information economy.

This will also the first time that an ASEAN advisory body will have to move at the speed of the Internet. Given the enormity of our task and the short time we have to fulfil it, the only way for us to succeed is if we move on ‘Internet time’.

While full of promise, the e-conomy of the 21st century is at the same time fraught with the risk that it will divide the world into new classes of economies – the “it haves” and the “it have nots” – just as earlier we had “industrial and non-industrial” economies. When industrial capacity was the benchmark for economic might, the number of machine tools or automobiles was used as indicators of economic capacity. Today the indicators are numbers of computers in use and the ease of access to information services such as the telephone or Internet cafe. As is apparent to all us, many of us in ASEAN fall in the wrong side of this emergent digital divide.

Fortunately, the technology that today threatens to further widen the gap between the information-rich and information-poor countries is the very same technology to achieving a more balanced global society. Development is people. It is not resources, not historical accident, not culture. So until people get access to information and knowledge and applications, no real development will take root. The fact is the cost of the new technology is becoming more and more affordable. Developing countries have an advantage in not being saddled with legacy systems and infrastructure and can therefore leapfrog into the newest technology. And the beauty of this technology is that it is global and can be applied nearly anywhere in the world. It is the professional skills – the creativity and the commitment to the challenge that count.

So to me achieving digital equality is a question of seizing the opportunities offered by the new technologies. It is a matter of political priorities and the utilization of skills and knowledge that we have. It needs visionary and brave leaders who will concentrate on opportunities instead of ruing their backwardness.

Fortunately, we have such leaders who recognize this fact. This is why we have gathered here today to fulfill the mandate they have given to provide advice and recommendations on how we can bring ASEAN forward into this brave new digital world under a strong public-private sector partnership.

So in the next two days we will begin to look at fundamental policy issues that must be addressed if ASEAN is to become it enabled and become a meaningful participant of the digital society of the future.
